Mrs. F. Sullivan Passes Away
Wife of Frank Sullivan, A Long Time Business Man of This City, Dies
Was Ill But a Very Few Days
Underwent a Delicate Operation and Also Became Afflicted with the Flu
The Sudden death of Mrs. Frank Sullivan last evening at about ten o’clock came as a shock to her relatives and to her many close friends in this city. Her friends were not aware she was in a serious condition. She had been in the hospital for a few days and it was thought she was getting along nicely. She contracted the flu and this made complications very serious considering her delicate condition at this time. On Tuesday it was found necessary to perform an operation and with the operation and the flu she was not able to withstand the shock.Mrs. Frank Sullivan has lived here since her marriage to Mr. Sullivan During the years of her residence here she has made many warm friends. She was of a kind disposition, always ready and willing to assist others. The Catholic church to which she belonged and was an active member will greatly miss her. Her death brings sadness to all who knew her and the family has the sympathy of all in this, their time of bereavement.
The funeral services will be held on Friday morning at ten o’clock at the Catholic church. Interment will be made at the Ruthven cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 21, 1923)
Obituary of Mrs. Frank Sullivan
Mrs. Frank G. Sullivan died March 20th of child birth, infant daughter preceded her in death four hours. Miss Mary Brennan was born in Highland township, Palo Alto county, three miles east of Ruthven where she lived with her parents until the death of her father, John K. Brennan, when she and her mother moved to Ruthven where she lived until her mother passed away in 1909. Then she made her home with her sister, Mrs. E.J. Ruddy of Ruthven, until she was married to Frank G. Sullivan, of Estherville, June 7, 1911. They came to Estherville and made their home at 720 south Eighth street. In March 1912 Mrs. E.J. Ruddy, a sister of Mrs. Frank Sullivan died leaving a large family and Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan took Edward Ruddy a baby of two years old and gave him a mother’s love and care until her death.She was a devout member of the Catholic church, a charter member of the Catholic D. of A’s. A conscientious member of Mystic Workers’ of World. Funeral service was held Friday morning at St. Patrick’s church, the ceremony was performed by Rev. John Hartigan, Rockwell, Ia., cousin of Mr. Sullivan. An eloquent sermon was delivered by Rev. C.P. Conway, pastor of the church. Interment was in St. Patrick’s cemetery at Ruthven, Iowa. The pall bearers were Frank and Joe Kenney, John Morrissey, joe L. McDonald, Will E. Bagan and Jno. P. Koster. Out of town relatives at the funeral were: Mrs. J.C. Brennan and family of Emmetsburg, T.J. Brennan and family, of Ruthven, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Brennan, Ruthven, E.J. Ruddy and family, Emmetsburg, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Murphy and daughter, Clinton, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Brennan, Ruthven and Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Sullivan and family of Emmetsburg. Neighbors and friends showed their love for Mrs. Sullivan by the beautiful floral offerings and kind acts. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 28, 1923)
