1897-1979
Armstrong – Services for John F. O’Neill, 81, Armstrong, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Armstrong, with Father Dale Koster officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Estherville.

Mr. O’Neill died Jan. 23 at his Armstrong home.

He was born August 3, 1897, at Whittemore to Joseph F. and Mary Catherine (Harrity) O’Neill. He received his education in the Armstrong schools. After graduation from high school there he attended and graduated from the School of Banking, Rutgers University.

Oct. 8, 1927, he married Ruth H. Coady at Estherville. The couple resided in Armstrong where Mr. O’Neill has been a banker since 1916.

He was president of the First Trust and Savings Bank and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kiwanis Club, American Legion, a charter member of the Knights of Columbus; and was a past treasurer of the Iowa Bankers Association and served on the execute council of that organization. He was also a veteran of WWI.

His survivors include his wife, Ruth, Armstrong; three sons, John F, Jr., Burlington, and James M. and Jean T., both of Armstrong; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Norbert O’Neill, Rockford; and two sisters, Marguerite O’Neill, Rockford and Mrs. Marie Leonard, Plainview, Minn.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Jerold H. O’Neill.

Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Armstrong, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening and until the time of services on Friday. A parish rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Thursday followed by a Knights of Columbus service at 8:30. Both will be held at the funeral home.
