Estherville – Funeral services for Ruth Hoye, 100, of Estherville will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Friday, July 12, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Visitations will be held one hour prior to services only at the United Methodist Church.

Ruth was born on April 9, 1902 in Plymouth, the daughter of the Rev. James and Mary Lena (Middleton) Kidder. Ruth graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1919. After completion of high school she attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon, Iowa and graduated from Cornell College in 1923.

Ruth moved to Estherville in September 1924 and taught French in Estherville High School and also the first years of Estherville Junior College.

On June 7, 1927, she was united in marriage to Joseph L. Hoye. Joseph died October 20, 1969.

Ruth was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville. She also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Ruth is survived by three children, Mary Ann Grinde of Burlington; Don Hoye and his wife, Jan of Las Vegas, Nev.; Tom Hoye and his wife, Jan of Carefree, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She has been preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Estherville is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial had been established for the United Methodist Church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 15, 2002)
