Estherville – Funeral services for Sylvia A. Greene, 89, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Jerry Cosgrove officiating. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2001 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Sylvia was born on October 10, 1911 in Brooklyn Center, Minn., the daughter of Merton F. and Mae Elizabeth (Creamer) Lane. She received her education in the Brooklyn Center Elementary schools and graduate from Patrick Henry High School in 1929. She then attended the Minneapolis Vocational School in Minneapolis, Minn.

On November 25, 1933 she was united in marriage to William F. Greene at Faribault, Minn. They lived in Waterloo where Sylvia was employed at Black’s Department Store. The couple moved to Fort Dodge and then to Estherville in 1945. Sylvia was employed as a bookkeeper for W.S. Clark Insurance Company form 1958 until 1968 and then Hammond Oil Company until her retirement in 1975.

Sylvia was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed camping, flowers, and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Greene of Estherville; one daughter, Sandra Lyons and husband Terry of Leander, Texas; one son, Patrick Greene and wife, Zola of Estherville; two grandsons, Jim Lyons of The Colony, Tex. and Ryan Greene of Ames; three granddaughters, Brenda Lyons of Austin, Tex., Debbie Lyons-McKee of Maxwell, Tex. and Jessica Greene of Mankato, Minn.; two great grandsons, Kevin Lyons and Eric McKee and three sisters, Ruth Larson of Green Valley, Ariz., Beryl Anderson of Travis Park, Tex. and Marge Dupont of Minneapolis, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter Stacey, one brother William and five sisters, Francis, Evelyn, Sylvia, Jeanette, Winifred and Arlene. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 9, 2001)
