Mrs. Jacob Whitish Died Last Thursday
Funeral Services Held Last Saturday from the Catholic Church – Well Known Lady
The many friends of Mrs. Jacob Whitish, of this city, were grieved to learn of her death, which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sidney Elce, last Thursday, May 16th [per courthouse records, May 17, 1918] She was a woman of estimable character and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all her neighbors and friends. She was seventy-eight years old at the time of her death. Funeral services were held from the Catholic church last Saturday afternoon conducted by Father Murtagh. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery.

Besides the husband, she leaves to mourn her loss, five children, one daughter, Mrs. Sidney Elce and four sons, Tom of this city, John of Stiger, Wisconsin, Joe of Dixie, Illinois and Mike or Granville, N.D. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their loss. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, May 22, 1918)

Mrs. Jacob Whitish died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sidney Elce Thursday, May 16, at the age of 78 years and 21 days. She was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery. The funeral was held from the Catholic church Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. Murtagh. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Mr. Jacob Whitish, one daughter, Mrs. Sydney Elce, and four sons, Tom of this city, John of Stiger, Wisconsin, Joe of Dixon, Illinois, and Mike of Granville, North Dakota.
