Funeral Rites Held for Mrs. D.A. Fitzgibbons Sr.
Services for Mrs. David A. Fitzgibbons Sr., 82, who died at 9 o’clock Friday [July 24, 1970] night, at Holy Family Hospital, were held this morning at 10 at St. Patrick’s Church. Mrs. Fitzgibbons had been in failing health for several months, and suffered a stroke Tuesday. Burial was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Estherville.Mrs. Fitzgibbons was born Julia Kennedy, May 3, 1888, to Michael and Mary Kennedy at Dwight, Ill. She was educated at St. John’s school in Bancroft and was a teacher.
On October 17, 1914, she was united in marriage to David A. Fitzgibbons Sr. at Armstrong, Ia. Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgibbons observed their 50th wedding anniversary in October, 1964.
Mr. Fitzgibbons, who moved to the county in 1922, was for many years depot agent at Armstrong, retiring in 1957. He died in 1966.
The late Mrs. Fitzgibbons was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Armstrong and since the Fitzgibbons’ move to Estherville eight years ago, has been a member of St. Patrick’s Church.
Mrs. Fitzgibbons is survived by four sons: Leo, Francis, and David of Estherville, and Dr. Robert J. Fitzgibbons of Omaha; three sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Elizabeth) Christenson of Fairmont, Mrs. Don (Loretta) Hayes of Remsen, and Alice Kennedy of Los Angeles.
Also surviving is one brother, Edward Kennedy of Fairmont, 25 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Fitzgibbons was preceded in death by three brothers: Michael of Armstrong, and Joseph and John of Fairmont; and a sister, Mrs. E.S. (Mamie) Camden of Minneapolis.
Services were conducted by the Rt. Rev. Monsignor James H. Duhigg.
Pallbearers were nine grandchildren: Michael Fitzgibbons of Chicago; John, Joseph and Thomas Fitzgibbon, Estherville; Robert, Terrence, and Timothy Fitzgibbons of Omaha; and David A. Fitzgibbons III and Denis Fitzgibbons of Estherville.
