Mrs. Nettie [Nellie] Holcomb Passed Away Yesterday
Mrs. Nettie Holcomb passed away at noon on Tuesday at her apartment home in the Brees building. Mrs. Holcomb has been failing health for the past three months but her condition has not been serious until the past few days.Mrs. Holcomb [Phernella Nelson Holcomb] was born in Knoxville, Ill., on March 18, 1857. She came to Estherville twenty-five years ago and has resided here with her daughter since that time. At the time of her death she was residing with her daughter, Miss Lulu, who is employed in the Postoffice here.
The funeral services will be held from the M.E. Church on Thursday afternoon at two o’clock, the Rev. WinterStein officiating. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 10, 1931)

The Estherville Vindicator and Republican says that Mrs. Nellie Holcomb, for many years a resident of Estherville, passed away at noon on June 9 after a serious illness of almost two months. Mrs. Holcomb was born in Knox county, Ill., in March 1857. She was married August 19, 1875 at Knoxville to H.W. Holcomb. They moved to Nebraska Sept. 1, 1888, to Bancroft March, 1898, and to Emmetsburg March, 1900. Again in 1906 they moved to Dunnell and then to Estherville. The father died March 26, 1921. There were fourteen children and seven are now living: Emma Weir, Windom, Minn., Edward, Butler, Ill., Hannah Osberg, Dunnell, Mabel Brooks, Red Brooks, Calif, Hulda Emery, Arnolds Park, Lulu, Estherville and William, Los Angeles.
