Died at His Home on East Howard Street, March 22

Resided in Estherville Over Thirty Years – Funeral Held Thursday in Methodist Church
John W. Hill, after an illness of nearly three months, died at his home on east Howard street, Tuesday afternoon, March 22nd. There seemed to be no particular ailment but a general breaking down on account of old age. He was able to be up and around the house part of the time until a few days before he passed away.Deceased was born in Indiana June 24, 1840, and was 69 years and nine months old at the time of his death. He was married in 1866 to Arabella Brant and moved to Estherville in 1880. He served as a soldier in the Twelfth Iowa Regiment and was honorably discharged July 23, 1862. He was a member of the G.A.R. and was one of the officers of the local lodge at the time of his death.
Besides a wife and three sons, Albert E., of Cloverdale, Oregon; William T., of Kalispel, Mont., and Jasper A., of this city, are left to mourn his death.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Thursday morning and the remains laid to rest in Oak Hill [East Side] cemetery. Rev. F.W. Ginn, a former pastor of the church here, preached the funeral sermon. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 30, 1910)
