Wallingford – William George Hiles, 52, Wallingford, died Tuesday [November 8, 1977] at his home in Wallingford.Services for Mr. Hiles will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the new Henry and Olson Funeral Home on North Ninth Street, Estherville, with the Rev. Wesley Brodin officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.
Visitation will be in the old Henry and Olson Funeral Home Chapel on North Seventh Street, Estherville, after noon Thursday.
Mr. Hiles was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Estherville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William V. Hiles. He received his education in Gruver schools and was married to Margaret Behrens Aug. 16, 1952. They farmed in the area for many years and also operated a trucking business. He was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church.
Mr. Hiles is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son, Kenneth Hiles, Wallingford; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Henry (Marion) Peterson, Tampa, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 9, 1977)
William George Hiles, 52, died Tuesday, November 8, 1977 at his home in Wallingford, Iowa. He was born December 25, 1924 at Estherville. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William V. Hiles of Estherville.
He attended the Gruver school and was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church, having united on profession of faith March 29, 1953. He was engaged in farming near Gruver until 1964 when he moved to Wallingford and was in the trucking business until 1969 when he lost his eye sight and took up CB radio as a hobby and pastime, and known to all his friends as “White Cane.”
On August 16, 1952 he was united in marriage to Margaret Behrens and to this union one son Kenneth William Hiles of Wallingford, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife Margaret and one Kenneth of Wallingford, one sister, Mrs. Henry (Marian) Peterson of Tampa, Florida, two granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn and Beth Ann Hiles of Wallingford, and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents Mr. and Mrs. William V. Hiles and a brother Kenneth Edward Hiles. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, November 17, 1977)
