Mother of Ben Archer is Dead
Mrs. Archer, who had been making her home with her son, Ben Archer of this locality, passed away Thursday after an illness of some duration. She was quite advanced in age and for some time she had been suffering with ailments incident to old age. The remains were taken to Rolfe Saturday and the funeral was held at that place Sunday, the remains being laid to rest beside those of her husband and children who are buried in the cemetery at that place.

Mrs. Sylvia [Edwards] Archer was born in Medina county, Ohio, in 1844. She was united to George Archer at Rochelle, Illinois. To this union six children were born, all of whom are dead except the son, Ben Archer of this community. One girl, Bertha Archer, died in infancy. Mrs. Amy Cox of Rolfe, Mrs. Alta Schmuck and Mrs. Dolly Schmuck of Mitchell, South Dakota, and Mrs. John Kizer of Graettinger, all died in later years, Mrs. Kizer passing away but a few months ago.

Though the deceased had made her home in this locality but a few months yet during that time she made many friends. She was quite advanced in years being nearly 76 years of age, and she was unable to get about very much. Her death brings to a close a long and active career of a worthy and devoted mother and her passing will be sincerely mourned by the only surviving child and the other relatives of the family. The Times extends sincere sympathy to Mr. Archer and the members of his family in the sorrow that has come to their home. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, July 1, 1920)
