Succumbs to Leukemia at Age of 47
Mrs. John Heidecker, 47, a resident of Estherville since 1943, died at 1:45 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital. Death was attributed to leukemia. Mrs. Heidecker had been ill for about eight weeks.Verga Viola Archer was born Oct. 4, 1913 on a farm near Graettinger, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Archer. She received her education in rural Graettinger schools, and on Dec. 20, 1932 she was married to John Heidecker at Estherville.
For the past 12 and one-half years she has worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company here. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Methodist WSCS.
Survivors include one son, Duane, Evanston, Ill.; and six sisters Fay Archer, Evanston; Mrs. George (Lila) Hartnett and Fern Archer, both of Chicago; Mrs. Ernest (Zella) Solmonson, and Mrs. Otto (Norma) Swalve), both of Estherville; and Mrs. Wayne (Evelyn) Solmonson, Kellogg.
Also surviving are two brothers Floyd Archer of Carpentersville, Ill., and Milton Archer, Inwood.
Family service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sternborg-Reese Funeral Chapel, with public service scheduled for 2 p.m. at the first Methodist Church, the Rev. William R. Noland, officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from Tuesday morning until 11 a.m. Wednesday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of service. The casket will not be opened following the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 16, 1961)

Mrs. Verga Heidecker, Estherville, died at Holy Family Hospital Jan. 16, at the age of 47.Verga Viola Archer was born on a farm near Graettinger, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Archer. On Dec. 20, 1932, she was married to John Heidecker. The couple lived in Wallingford until Mr. Heidecker’s death in a truck-train accident in 1943, at which time she moved to Estherville.
For the past 12 ½ years she has worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Methodist WSCS.
