Mrs. Frank Haar Died on Sunday [May 2, 1926] Morning
Was Ill for Only a Day – Her Death Resulted From An Apoplectic Stroke
Mrs. Frank Haar passed away at her home on north Tenth street Sunday after an illness of only a day’s duration. Her death was due to apoplexy. She was taken ill on Saturday noon at 1:00 o’clock and gradually grew worse until she passed away. She had been in poor health since last November but had always been able to be around. Her sudden departure from this world fills the home with grief that is not easily overcome. Hannah Marie Sorgenfrie [Sorgenfrei] was born in Dostrup, Denmark, on September 23, 1854. She was baptized and confirmed in the faith of the Lutheran church at Dostrup and remained true to this faith throughout her entire life. She came to America in the year 1881 and settled at Stoneing, Ill. A year later she moved to Alta, Iowa, where she was united in marriage with Frank Haar in the year 1882. To this union five children were born, one having preceded her mother in death, a daughter, Katherine, who died at the age of nine years. In March, 1911, Mr. and Mrs. Haar moved with their family to a farm northeast of Estherville where they lived for three years. They moved from there to Lime Creek, Minn., and only last March moved back to Estherville where they were residing at the time of Mrs. Haar’s death. Mrs. Haar was the kind of woman who was liked by everyone. Her quiet and unassuming disposition made her the favorite of all who knew here. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. Her home was her shrine and her thoughts were always directed toward it, trying in some way to improve it, trying in some way to improve it and make things more comfortable for her family, whom she worshipped with all the mother love that it is possible for a human being to manifest. She was an ideal mother and wife and her place in the home can never be filled. Her husband and children found in her a constant source of consolation in all their sorrows and trials as well as one who always rejoiced in their successes and happiness. Those surviving her are her husband, two daughters, Miss Anna, at home, Mrs. Harry Peterson, also of Estherville, two sons, Geo. Haar of this city and Peter Haar of Lime Creek, Minn. Also three brothers, Hans and Peters Sorgenfrie, of Snohomish, Wash., and Samuel, of Estherville. Out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral were Rev. and Mrs. Arthur Peterson, of Dows, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Nelson, of Avoca, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Nels Jorgenson, Nels Peterson and daughter, Gladys, and Mrs. Nels Radick, of Fulda, Minn., Mrs. Nels Haar and son, Albert, Mrs. John Smith and Miss Marie Nelson, of Alta, Iowa, Mrs. Dorothy Anderson, Chris Anderson and sons, Chris and Jens, of Paullina, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. George Beyers, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Peterson, Bertel Beyers, and Herman Kleinhekesel, all of Archer, Iowa. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Estherville Lutheran church, Rev. M. Mansager, of Graettinger, officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved relatives in the loss of their beloved wife, mother and sister. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1926)
