Services Set Saturday for E.G. Griffis
Edward Gordon Griffis, 72, Estherville, died about 7:30 a.m. Thursday [September 28, 1967] at his home from a heart attack. He had been in failing health for a number of years.

He was born Jan. 21, 1895 at Clarence, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Griffis. He received his education in Cedar County schools. He was married July 4, 1922 to Hazel Keeler at Emmetsburg.

Mr. Griffis moved to Estherville in 1921 and was employed by the Railway Express Agency until his retirement seven years ago.

He was active in the Odd Fellows Lodge for a number of years and was a World War I Veteran and was a member of VFW American Legion and the World War I Barracks. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, and one sister, Mrs. Rena Craig, Center Point, Iowa. His only son was killed in World War II Jan. 6, 1945.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, five sisters.

Family services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church followed by public services at 2. Rev. H. Allen Wirtz will officiate. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home today and until noon Saturday when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 29, 1967)
