George Grems Dies; Funeral to Be Friday
George W. Grems, 56, Gruver, died of a heart attack at about 2 p.m. Tuesday [February 23, 1971] while operating his road grader for the county, just south of Highway 9 on County Road N. 52.He was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Swan Lake Township to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grems. He was educated in Swan Lake and Gruver schools.
On June 25, 1937, he was married to Alvina Campbell at Rock Island, Ill. Following their marriage the farmed in Swan Lake Township until 1947, when they moved to a farm near Orleans in Dickinson Co.
They moved back to Gruver in 1952, and since that time he has been employed by Emmet County.
He is survived by his wife, Alvina, Gruver; three sons, Frank, Glenview, Ill.; Wayne, Algona; Dennis, Estherville; three daughters, Janice at home; Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Fisher, Estherville; Mrs. Jack (Delores) Jenkins, Milford; 10 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Orvis Kaltvedt, Estherville and Mrs. Vernon Origer, Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and an infant child.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Gruver with the Rev. Neal Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery, Estherville.
Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, after 9 a.m. Thursday until 11 a.m. Friday when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 24, 1971)
