Brother of Roy A. Burt is Dead
Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. Burt heard yesterday that Mr. Burt’s brother, George V. Burt, 85, died Monday at a nursing home in Grand Rapids, Minn. His death followed surgery on fingers of both hands and also by his advanced age.Relatives here were told that Mr. Burt, a longtime resident of Grand Rapids, suffered from hardening of the arteries and had been somewhat confused lately. He had wandered away from the nursing home during last week’s frigid temperatures, relatives said. They said that the temperature there at the time was about 30 degrees below zero with 30 inches of snow piled on the ground. When Mr. Burt was found by personnel of the home both his feet and hands were frozen, making it necessary to amputate his fingers a few days later.
George V. Burt was born Sept. 26, 1880, at the homestead of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Burt, who lived southeast of Armstrong.
He received his education in rural Armstrong schools and was married in 1905 to Ella Christopher of Armstrong.
In 1911 Mr. and Mrs. Burt moved to Grand Rapids and lived in their home there, until Mrs. Burt’s death. At that time Mr. Burt moved to a nursing home.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters, all in the Duluth and Grand Rapids areas.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, George Jr.
Roy A. Burt is unable to go to Grand Rapids for the funeral services tomorrow because of his health. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 9, 1966)
