Martha Fowler
Estherville – Martha M. Fowler, 87, Estherville, died Saturday [March 19, 1977] evening at Holy Family Hospital.

Services for Mrs. Fowler will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Estherville, with the Rev. R.B. Flentgen officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at Henry and Olson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Monday until noon Wednesday, when the body will be taken to the church.

Mrs. Fowler was born March 7, 1890, at Chemnitz, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hermann Dorffel. She received her education in Germany and came to the United States when she was 21.

She was married to John W. Fowler Aug. 31, 1913, at Decatur, Ill., and lived the past 52 years in Estherville, where she was employed at Holy Family Hospital for a number of years. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Fowler is survived by five sons, Herman Fowler, Lawton, H.Lee Fowler, Lowden, James Fowler, Amelia, Ohio, Max Fowler, Cedar Park, Tex., and Charles Fowler, New Cambria, Kan.; nine daughters, Mrs. Daisy Laidig, Estherville, Mrs. Dale (Louise) Lewis, Estherville, Mrs. Arnold (Mildred) Laidig, Estherville, Mrs. Pearl Mortimore, Estherville, Mrs. Lyle (Anna Mary) Lewis, Hoyt Lakes, Minn., Mrs. Merle (Nellie) Phillips, Wendell, Minn., Mrs. Gordon (Mina) Mix, Dolliver, Mrs. Don (Dolly) Schubert, Wallingford, and Mrs. Mel (Evelyn) Zhorne, Dysart; 62 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Klara Butzke, Berlin, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 21, 1977)
