Joseph Flier, 85, Dies; Rites on Wednesday
Armstrong – Joseph Flier, 85, Armstrong, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Valley Vue Nursing Home from complications of advanced age. He had been in failing health for the past two years.He was born Sept. 3, 1884, at Cherokee to Mr. and Mrs. Herman Flier and was educated in the Cherokee schools.
On Feb. 10, 1913, he was married to Jesse Steen at Tama. The couple moved to the Armstrong area in 1935. He farmed with his brothers for 15 years and retired in 1941.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Armstrong.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Orville (Bertha) Headrick, Curlew, and Mrs. Art (Helen) Anderson, Savage, Minn.; one son, Orville Flier, Minneapolis; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one brother, Jake Flier, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one daughter, four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Armstrong with Rev. Travis Cannaday officiating. Burial will be in the Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Reese-Henry Funeral Home in Armstrong after 7 p.m. this evening until noon on Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 13, 1970)
