Thomas Conway Passed Away Tuesday at His Home
Thomas J. Conway passed away Tuesday at his home on the west side of the river. Mr. Conway was fifty-five years of age, born in Emmetsburg and for years has been an engineer on the Rock Island. He has been in poor health for sometime past. The funeral services will be held in Emmetsburg on Friday morning at the Catholic Church. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 18, 1933)

Thos. Conway Well Known Engineer Dies
Was Resident of Estherville for 33 Years – Funeral Friday
Thomas J. Conway, 55, and for 33 years a resident of Estherville died at his home on west Lincoln street Tuesday after a nine months illness of complications of heart disease.

Mr. Conway was born on May 7, 1876 at Emmetsburg, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Conway, pioneers of that place. He was married at Ruthven 18 1904 to Miss Nora V. Sullivan. In 1900 Mr. Conway had entered the engineer service of the Rock Island and he brought his bride to Estherville where they resided almost continuously since that time. In 1907 he was made an engineer and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He was an active member of the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus.

One daughter, Lucille, now Mrs. Lee McCutcheon of Clinton, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Conway, and daughter, two granddaughters, Vivian and Thomas Lee McCutcheon, two sisters, Mrs. John Hickey and Mrs. Frank King and one brother John Conway of near Emmetsburg survive. Two brothers, L.E. and J.P. Conway and one sister, Mrs. Charles Nolan have preceded him in death. There are also a large number of nieces and nephews left to mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s church in Estherville, Friday morning at nine with Rev. L.J. Savage officiating. Interment will be made in St. John’s cemetery at Emmetsburg. Pall bearers will be T.J. Conway and John King, nephews, J.J. Morrissey, J.J. O’Rourke, Joe Kenney and Ed Liddle.

Relatives from out of town here for the services are Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Brennan, Ruthven, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Murphy, Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Will Brennan, Mr. and Mrs. Will Brown, Ruthven and their families, John Brown of Ruthven, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kenney, Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Will Sullivan, --- and – McEvoy, Ruthven, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Conway of Mallard and the Chas. Nolan, L.E. Conway, John Hickey and F.J. King families of Emmetsburg and the J.P. Conway family of Graettinger.

Mr. Conway while especially devoted to his home and family was greatly esteemed by those with whom he was associated socially and in his work.

He was quiet and unassuming but very efficient in his duties as an engineer. Neighbors found him ready to co-operate and a kindly friend in time of need. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 19, 1933)
