Geo. C. Davis, A Pioneer of County, Passed Away
George C. Davis, one of Emmet county’s fine old pioneers passed away at his home on N. Seventh street last Monday [April 1, 1940] afternoon at 5:30 after a long illness. Death came as the result of a very severe heart attack.

Mr. Davis farmed south of this city for a great many years. When he retired from actual duty he moved to Estherville to reside in 1913. Since that time he has resided in the home place where he passed away.

Mr. Davis was born in Herefordshire, England on December 12, 1849. The family came to America in 1862 and resided near this city since 1863. He was united in marriage to Isabelle Jane Whealey March 25, 1874. To this union there were one son and five daughters born, Harold Davis of Emmetsburg, Mrs. May Dunn of Armstrong, Mrs. J. J. Felkey of Solway, Minn., Mrs. Henry Worster of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Mrs. J.E. Goldsbury of Gruver and Mrs. Lillian Davis of this city.

Mr. Davis in the early day was active in community work. He entered into politics for others but never for himself. He was admired by all who knew him and was beloved by his neighbors.

The funeral services were held today at two o’clock in the Methodist church the Rev. F.W. Ortmeyer officiating. Interment was in the East Side cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 4, 1940)
