Mrs. Sarah Cushman Laid to Rest at Estherville Monday
Mrs. Sarah M. [Sarah Margaret Hemphill] Cushman, 84, formerly of Dickinson county, died June 7 at the Earl Cushman home at Bancroft where she had been staying the past four weeks.

She had been ill from heart trouble for more than a month.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Mahlum and Sandin chapel in Estherville with burial in the East Side Cemetery. Rev. C. J. Semans officiated.

Mrs. Cushman was preceded in death by her husband, B.M. Cushman, who died in 1940 and by one son, Bertie, who died at the age of two years. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Ross of Estherville; four sons, Earl of Bancroft, Johnson of Dickens, Paul of Gary, S.D., Leo of Jackson, Minn.; two sisters, Mary Simmons and Ethel Simmons of Center Point and a half-brother [stepson] who lives in California. There also are several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Cushman was born May 5, 1862, at Center Point in Linn county, Ia. Fifty seven years ago she moved to eastern Dickinson county and remained there on a farm until 1936 when the family moved to Estherville. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, June 13, 1946)
