Harry Cronk Laid to Rest Wednesday
Harry Winfield Cronk, son of Chauncy and Mary Cronk, was born in Alleghany County, New York, September 10, 1882. He went to Dakota in 1903, where he worked on a ranch. In 1909, he came to Fort Dodge. Here he was united in holy wedlock with Alma Engholm December 16, 1909. Three children were adopted, of which one, Irene, has preceded him in death at the age of 18 years. In 1929, Mr. Cronk and family moved to Estherville vicinity. In 1941 they came to live at Terril. Mr. Cronk was baptized and received into communicant membership of the Ev. Lutheran church March 9, 1913 at Deer Creek, Webster county, Iowa by pastor C.H. Seltz. He remained a faithful member of the Lutheran church until his death.

Mr. Cronk took sick with a stomach ailment in 1942. After much suffering in sickness during the following years, during which he was very patient, he was finally taken to Rochester, Minn. at the beginning of this month. Here he consented to a serious operation. Complications set in, and Mr. Cronk died Sunday morning, May 13, at 11 o’clock at the St. Mary hospital in Rochester.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Alma Cronk; two children, Evelyn, Mrs. Ed Allen, of Bigelow, Minnesota and Milton of the armed forces at San Diego, California; two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was sustained and strengthened during the many years of hardship and sickness in his family and also during the time of his own illness by the word of his God exemplified by his confirmation text, Rom. 1, 16 “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.”

Mr. Cronk died at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 3 days.

Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran church here Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. W.G. Schultz in charge. Pallbearers were Melvin Christensen, Clyde Spencer, Herman Boettcher, Guy Glover, Wm. Keel and Wm. Reunitz.

Interment was made in East Lawn cemetery at Estherville. (Terril Record, Terril, IA, May 17, 1945)
