Young Mother Dies
Mrs. Irene Cooper, 36, died on Sunday [January 6, 1935] morning at the University of Iowa hospital at Iowa City where she has been confined for the past month suffering from a heart ailment.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at her home at 2 o’clock and at the Christian church at 2:30. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. M.A. Low will preach the services.

Mrs. Cooper was born on a farm southwest of Estherville and has lived her entire life in this community. For the past few years she has been employed part time in the Paris Cleaners.

She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Stanhope, five children, Leo, Juanita, Dorothy, Kenneth and Harry, Jr., five sisters, Mrs. Harry Wells and Mrs. John Bouillon of Condee, S.D., Mrs. Frank Scott of Sauk Center, Minn., Mrs. Van E. Judd of Zellah, Wash., and Miss Inez Stanhope of Estherville; three brothers, John Stanhope of Detroit Lake, Minn., Frank Stanhope of Buffalo, N.D., and Edward Stanhope of Waterloo. She is preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Will and Warren Stanhope. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, January 8, 1935)

Mrs. Irene Cooper Buried in East Side Cemetery Today
Mrs. Irene Lillian Cooper, 35, of Estherville, passed away Sunday morning at 10:30 in an Iowa City hospital where she had been receiving medical care for the past five weeks for heart trouble and complications.

She was born in Emmet county April 3, 1899 [per cemetery records 1895], and lived all her life in and near Estherville, and has a host of friends here who were deeply grieved at her passing. She attended Estherville public schools. For the past few years she has been employed at the Paris Cleaners in this city.

Mrs. Cooper was an excellent neighbor and devoted to her family. She is survived by five children, Leo 19, Wanetta 17, Dorothy 14, Kenneth 12 and Junior 11; her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. M.W. Stanhope of Estherville; five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Bullion of Condee, S.Dak.; Mrs. Ethel Scott of Sauk Center, Minn.; Mrs. Tina Wells, Crandell S. Dak.; Mrs. Theona Van Judd of Zelach, Wash.., and Miss Inez Stanhope of this city; three brothers, John of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; Frank of Buffalo, N.Dak.; and Edward of Waterloo. Three brothers, Warren, William and Joe, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held today at 2 at the Stanhope home and at 2:30 from the Christian church with Rev. M.A. Lowe in charge. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Peterson, George Lyman, Leo Sanders, H.E. Clark, Lew Salyers, and Oliver Langmo. Mrs. C.P. Mauck and Mrs. Floyd Goldsberry sang.

All the sisters and brothers were here for the funeral except Mrs. Van Judd of Washington, who was unable to attend. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 9, 1935)
