James A. Cole, 75, who has been a resident of Emmet county for 26 years, died Thursday [July 10, 1930] at his home in the southwest part of this city. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church with the Rev. A. L. Ragsdale and the Rev. W.G. Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Eastside cemetery.

James Alfred Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustavus Cole, was born Feb. 21, 1855, in Perth Center, Fulton county, New York. When he was 10 years old he moved to Allamakee county, moving to Martin county, Minn., three years later. On Dec. 31, 1876, he ws married to Caroline Garner. They went to a homestead five miles west of Sherubrn and lived there until 1904 when they moved to Estherville.

After a few years he took a rural mail route which he held for six years. For the past 15 years he has lived in the southwest part of this city. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Walter Swanson; two grandchildren, Marland Swanton and Virginia Simpson; one sister, Lottie; three brothers, Emmet of Pillager, Minn., Jay of Frazee, Minn., and Arthur.

Out-of-town relatives and friends at the funeral were Alvin Cole of Frazee, Minn., Earl Cole of Pillager, Minn., John O. Anderson of Dunnell, Mrs. Stella Dahl, Mrs. Elmer Swanson and son and Mrs. Blacktin of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Welcome, Mrs. A.M. Welcome, Charles Welcome and Alfred Welcome of Welcome.
