Ex-Resident Dies; Rites on Tuesday
Arnold George Clinton, 25, of Alton, formerly of Estherville, died in a one-car accident at 9 p.m. Saturday 3 ½ miles south of Sheldon on Highway 33.He had spent Thanksgiving Day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Clinton, in Estherville and was returning to his home at Alton.
Arnold Clinton was born Dec. 30, 1942, [per cemetery records Dec. 31, 1942] at Armstrong. He moved with his parents to Estherville and attended Estherville schools.
He was married in September, 1964, to Mary Fartago at Concord, Calif. He lived in Concord until July of this year when he returned to Alton.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964 in the Pacific area. Following his discharge he lived in Concord until his return to Alton where he was employed by Irv’s Market.
He is survived by his parents, two children, Cynthia, 2, and David, 1, living with their mother in Concord; two brothers, Ronald of Estherville, and Donald of Buffalo, Minn.; and six sisters, Mrs. William (Ardis) King of Altoona; Mrs. Ervin (Eunice) Julin of Alton; Mrs. Pence (Ione) Howard of Madrid; Mrs. Arthur (Janet) Howard and Evelyn Clinton of Minneapolis; and his paternal grandfather, Eugene Clinton of Minot, N.D.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Rawlin Johnson officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery where a military graveside service will be held.
Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home today until noon on Tuesday when the casket will be taken to the r.
Pallbearers will be Larry Lauritsen, Russell Cody, Marvin Fisher, Bob Jensen, Donald Barfoot, and Larry Wee. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 2, 1968)
