C. Chamberlain Dies: Rites Held By Legionaires
Charles A. Chamberlain, 38, died Monday at the Birney hospital after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Mahlum and Anderson Mortuary. The Rev. W. A. WinterStein, pastor of the Methodist church officiated. The American Legion had charge of the burial services at the East Side cemetery. Pall-bearers were E.H. Koop, R. W. Myers, S.I. Potter, G.E. VanValkenberg, C.S. Golty and Orin Manthe. Mrs. J.E. Stockdale sang at the services and she was accompanied by Mrs. Orin Manthe at the piano.

Charles Chamberlain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Chamberlain, was born September 15, 1891, in Hartley. He joined the army at Sioux Falls and served overseas. After he returned from the war he began working for the Rock Island Railway company here and continued that work until a few weeks ago.

He is survived by four sisters, Estelle Johnson of Minneapolis, Veda Odegaard of Canton, S.D., Ila O’Rourke of Minneapolis and Ada Shipman of Rockford, Ill., and two brothers, L.M. Chamberlain of Hammond, Ind., and O.G. Chamberlain of Pittsburgh. They were all present at the funeral but the brother from Pittsburgh. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, August 7, 1930)
