C. Carpenter Dies at 84
Here as a Child, Ill Three Weeks
Charles Carpenter, 83, longtime resident of Estherville, died this morning at 11:35 in Holy Family hospital, of heart disease. He had been hospitalized for three weeks with the condition. He would have celebrated his 84th birthday Sunday.

He was born Aug. 27, 1866, in Webster City, and at the age of 15 came to Estherville with his parents. They farmed south of town for several years.

He was married in 1892 to Carrie Clark and she preceded him in death about five years ago.

He was a township clerk for a long time and was partner in Coon and Carpenter butcher shop for several years as well as working as a drayman. He retired from farming in 1913.

Carpenter was a member of the Presbyterian church. He left no immediate descendants, but is survived by a nephew and niece in Cedar Rapids, and a nephew and niece in Estherville, William and Margaret Clark.

Services have not been arranged as yet. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 25, 1950)

Carpenter Rites Sunday
Services for Charles Carpenter will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Sandin funeral home with the Rev. John E. DeLong officiating. Burial will be in East Side cemetery. He died yesterday shortly before noon. He was a brother of Frank Carpenter who formerly published the Estherville Democrat which later became the Estherville News which he published for a long period of time until 1926 when he died. The Estherville News later became the Estherville Daily News. Friends of the deceased who wish to pay their last respects may all anytime up to time of services.
