Death Takes Mrs. Axel Carlson, 70
Mrs. Axel (Pearl) Carlson, 70, longtime resident of Estherville, died Tuesday [February 13, 1968] at 3:15 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital.

Mrs. Carlson fell Jan. 29 and suffered a fractured hip and had been hospitalized since that time. However, her immediate death was attribute to a heart attack.

Nellie Pearl Gemmill was born Feb. 20, 1897, at Grand Junction, the daughter of Duncan and Martha Gemmill. She received her early schooling there. While she was a young girl her mother died and Mr. Gemmill to live on a farm in the Dunnell area. The children completed their schooling there.

Pearl Gemmill was married Nov. 26, 1915 to Axel Carlson at Dunnell. For several years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Carlson farmed near Dunnell and then moved to Estherville. Mr. Carlson worked as a bread salesman here. He died Dec. 15, 1959.

Mrs. Carlson was a member of the First Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Dale and Russell, both of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Iver (Eunice) Gunderson of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Raymond (Loretto) Spoo of Estherville; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lloyd Gemmill of Grand Junction.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carlson will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Rev. C.R. Buckwalter officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery. A family service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Visitation hours will be anytime Thursday and until time of services Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 14, 1968)
