Burns Rites Held Today
Funeral services were held today for Edwin “Ted” Burns, 74, of Estherville, who died at his home Friday [December 28, 1973] morning. Services were at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Msgr. James Duhigg and Father Lawrence Burns officiating. Burial was in East Side Cemetery in Estherville.Mr. Burns was born Nov. 24, 1899 at Pontiac, Ill., to James and Kathryn Menton Burns. He married Ethyl South Dec. 3, 1925 at Jackson, Minn. He was employed by the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad, Hill’s Packing Company, People’s Natural Gas Company and, following his retirement, helped his son, Daryl Burns, operate a service station in Estherville.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville.
Mr. Burns is survived by his wife, Ethyl; two sons, Daryl of Estherville and Frederick South, Ellinwood, Kan.; four daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Lucille) Christensen, Estherville, Mrs. Dennis (June) Lowenberg, Escondido, Calif., Mrs. Eldon (Florence) Tiggs, Fairmont, and Mrs. Roy (Mildred) Christensen, Estherville; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ben Burns of Estherville, Francis Burns of El Reno, Okla., and Clyde Burns of Tujuna, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Joe Origer, Estherville, Mrs. Mary Claahan, Battle Creek, Mich., and Mrs. Homer Herwig, Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Reese-Henry Funeral Home of Estherville was in charge of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 31, 1973)
