Tuesday Rites Scheduled For L.F. Bunge
Services for Dr. Leland F. Bunge, 43, Estherville veterinarian and former member of the Estherville City Council, will be held Tuesday. Dr. Bunge died Friday [August 15, 1969] at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester of complications following surgery.

The Rev. Karl J. Nelson will officiate at services to be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church. This service will be preceded by a family service at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at any time at the Fuhrman Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Tuesday, when the body will be taken to lie in repose at the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers will be Vance Crim, Wayne Crim, Francis Fitzgibbons, John M. Greig, Dr. K.L. Johnson, Jack M. Kint, Daniel D. Sanderson, and Kenneth West.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Iowa State University veterinary medicine class of 1950 and other veterinarian associates.

Dr. Bunge was born July 10, 1926, at Preston, Minn., to the Rev. and Mrs. Gerhard Bunge. He moved with his family as a child to Garnavillo, Iowa, where he attended grade school. He was graduated from the high school at Independence and attended Wartburg College at Waverly, where he took his pre-veterinary medicine training. He was graduated in June, 1950, from Iowa State University with a degree in veterinary medicine.

On Dec. 28, 1947, he was married to Dorothy Rathbun, at Independence. Following his graduation they moved to Estherville where he established his practice. He served in World War II with the army.

Dr. Bunge was a member of Rotary Club, American Legion, Elks Lodge, Izaak Walton League, and Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the city council from November, 1965, until January, 1968.

He is survived by his wife; four son, Allen Richard, 19, James Lee, 17, Steven Mark, 16, and John Rathbun, 2; one daughter, Kathryn Marie, 14; his parents of Oelwein; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Ohlendorf, Bellevue, and Mrs. Dean (Noreen) Kebshull, Tama.
