Ivar Brandt Dies in Car at His Home Monday
Ivar Brandt, well known in this city was found dead in his automobile Monday evening about 10:30. The exact cause of death is not known but apparently it was a sudden and severe heart attack. The car was in a garage adjoining the property on which the Brandt family reside. About 7:30 Mr. Brandt told the family he was going downtown. He evidently went to the garage and it being cold started the car. The door was closed in the garage. The motor was stopped in the car but had been running for it was still warm.
Mr. Brandt’s body was on the seat of the car in such a position it would indicate he had a heart attack when entering the car. He might have been overcome by gas and tried to shut off the motor. The keys were on the floor of the car indicating he had pulled them out to stop the motor.
Mr. Brandt was born in Osteigalland, Sweden on July 5, 1885. He came to this country at the age of 17 and they settled at Ceylon, Minn. Later he moved to this city to make his home. He was united in marriage to Lydia Jurris on January 1, 1913 and to this union nine children were born.
He is survived by his widow and four sons and four daughters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00 o’clock from the Sternborg chapel and from the Methodist Church of which he was a member at 2:30 with the Rev. C. J. Semans officiating. Interment will be in the East Side cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 11, 1948)
