Mrs. George Bowman Dies Sunday
Mrs. George Bowman, 73, passed away at her home in Estherville Sunday, after an extended illness. Two years ago she suffered a stroke and has been in failing health since that time. A week ago Sunday evening her condition became much worse. She lapsed into a coma on Mother’s day, Mary 11th, from which she never rallied.

Lydia Lawrence was born June 10, 1868, in Biroqua, Wis. When she was a young girl her parents moved to Carrol, Iowa, for a few years after which they made their home in Miller, So. Dak.

On October 15, 1890, she was united in marriage to George Bowman at Elkton, So. Dak. They observed the golden anniversary of their wedding last year. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Bowman moved to Spirit Lake where they made their home for eight years, moving to Estherville in 1898 where they have since resided.

Mrs. Bowman took an active interest in the social and community life of this city as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Service Star Legion, the Royal Neighbors of America, and was a member by demit of the Eastern Star. Early in her life she united with the Methodist church and has been a faithful worker in that body as long as she was able. She was also a member of the Priscilla Club, an organization of the Methodist church.

Ever mindful of the needs of her family and friends Mrs. Bowman was a woman who spent a great deal of her time helping others and whenever help was needed or a kind word or friendly deed could enlighten someone’s burden, she was ever ready and willing to do more than her share. Throughout her long illness she has been a patient sufferer and though at times the burden seemed unbearable, she rarely complained or became embittered.

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Moore, and Mrs. Claude Randolph, of Estherville, and one son, Lawrence Bowman of Bennett, Wis. A daughter, who passed away in 1900 has preceded her mother in death. Also surviving are one sister Mrs. Joe Goeltz, of Mason City, a brother, Ollie Lawrence, of San Diego, Calif., and four grandchildren, Lawrence and Margaret Moore and Eugene Randolph of Estherville, and Robert Bowman, of Bennett, Wis.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church with burial in the East Side cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 20, 1941)
