Mrs. Best Had Lived in Emmet County Since ‘22
Mrs. William Best, born Berdie Tomina Orstad, Sept. 11, 1893 [per cemetery records 1894], daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Orstad at Norway, Ill, died March 18, at 11:05 at Holy Family hospital of heart disease. She was baptized Oct. 22, the year of her birth, at Theinges Evangelical Lutheran church.

After living at Norway for a few years, she moved with her family in Story City where she received her education and was confirmed in May 10, 1908, by Rev. O. P. Vangness. Later the family then moved to Garner and she went to Storm Lake where she worked for one year.

On March 8, 1911, she was married to William Best, and the couple made its home in Storm Lake for 11 years. In 1922, they moved to Emmet county and farmed for 15 years near the Raleigh community before moving to Estherville in May, 1936, and they made their home here until Mrs. Best’s death.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and a faithful communicant although she had been in ill health for 17 years and not able to attend as often as she wished.

Survivors include her husband; five children, Fred of Palm City, Calif., Norman of Algona, Mrs. Harold Newman of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Orville Sampson of Estherville, and Gerald of Graettinger, her mother, Mrs. Bertha Faulhaber of Belmond, two sisters, a brother, 12 grandchildren, an aunt, an uncle and several half brothers and sisters.
