Sidney Bemis, 77, Dies at Dickinson Hospital
Sidney Bemis, 77, of 1406 Hill, died Tuesday night at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Harpole-Tenold Funeral Home. Mr. Bemis was retired and formerly lived at Estherville. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, January 19, 1967)Sidney E. Bemis
Sidney Ernest Bemis, 88, a former Emmet county clerk of court, was interred at the East Side Cemetery at Estherville following funeral services at the Harpole-Tenold Funeral Home Friday, Jan. 20.Mr. Bemis, who also managed the grain elevator at Estherville and was an assistant secretary to the Iowa Executive Council, was retired and had been residing at 1406 Hill in Spirit Lake. He also managed elevators at Montgomery and Harrisburg, S.D. Mr. Bemis was a member of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Bemis died Jan. 24 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1878, in Estherville, the son of Simeon and Eliza M. Bemis. He attended Estherville schools and Humboldt Business College and was married Feb. 4, 1903, in Estherville, to Bertha J. [Bertha Jane Davis] Bemis. They resided there from 1903 to 19013, at Montgomery from 1913 to 1914; in Estherville again from 1914 to 1925, in Des Moines from 1925 to 1935; at Harisburg, S.D. from 1935 to 1948, and in Spirit Lake since 1948.
Mr. Bemis is survived by his wife; one son, Sim L. Bemis of Emmetsburg, and a daughter, Mildred M. Horton of Sioux Falls, S.D. He was preceded by his parents, five sisters and two infant daughters.
The Rev. Harold James officiated at the services and Paul Reddington was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Redington Pallbearers were John Walker, Paul Johnson, Gerald Fines, Lynn Weir, Gene Weir and Don Weir. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, January 26, 1967)
