Estherville – Services for Merle W. Andre, 56, Estherville, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church with Dr. James Harmon and Rev. Fred Sawyer officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. He died Sunday in Holy Family Hospital.
Friends may call at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born Oct. 6, 1925 at Superior the son of James F. and Alta Mae (Ramsey) Andre. He attended Superior and Estherville schools and graduated from Estherville High School in 1943. On Jan. 20, 1946 he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Lloyd at Estherville. Andre enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1945 and was active in the Air Force Reserve where he served as a captain. He worked for the United States Postal Service and was forced to retire because of ill health after 21 years.
Andre was a member of the First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and White Shrine and served as chairman of the Emmet County Heart Drive and was named Outstanding Volunteer in 1982. He was a veteran of World War Two.
Survivors include his wife Betty, and one son James Andre, Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. Duane (Merllene) Bendixen, Fair Oaks, Calif. And Mrs. Janet Heidecker, Estherville; two brothers, Richard Andre, Des Moines and Wayne Andre, Estherville.(Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 16, 1982)
