Burkhart Lost in Action
Local Soldier Killed July 7 in France According to Word Received by Brothers, Sister Here
Another name has been added to the list of honorable dead of the wide conflict. Word was received Friday night by Mrs. Alma Burge of the death of her brother, Pfc. Allen Burkart, 29, killed in action July 7 in France.

Private Burkart was a member of the invasion forces and had been stationed in England since going overseas in November. Last letter received by relatives here was dated July 3rd.

Besides Mrs. Burge, the young man is survived by six brothers and five sisters, Mrs. Burge, Mrs. Edward Weir and Miss Esther Burkart of Estherville; Mrs. Ernest Amos, Vinton; Mrs. Wm. Perry, Yakima, Wash. The brothers are Clarence W. Burkart, C. C. M. in Samoa with the navy, Corp. Lester Burkart, Kingman Field, Ariz., John and Elmer Burkart, Estherville, Glen Burkart, Manhatten, Ill., and Charles Burkart, Whiting, Ind. His parents preceded him in death.

Pvt. Burkart was born in Estherville, Feb. 24, 1914 and lived here most of his life. He was a graduate of the Estherville high school. Prior to his induction he was working in Manhatten, Ill., and was called into service from that state. He received his army training at Camp Haan, Calif., Gordon E.
