Plowing Bee for Carl Ahrens
Seventeen farmers with 16 plows held a plowing bee for Carl Ahrens after he and his wife were injured in an accident which also killed their four-week old son near here Sept. 30.Mr. and Mrs. Ahrens were two of the seven persons injured in a two-car collision as they were returning home with their newly christened son, Larry Carl.
Mrs. Ahrens received a fractured pelvis and internal injuries and Ahrens was treated for chest injuries.
The plowing bee was held at the Ahrens’ 160-acre farm two miles east and five miles north of Estherville. The men plowed 45 acres between 12:45 and 4 p.m.
Six women, Gladys Topp, Mrs. Rolland Shannon, Luella Johnson, Helen Gray, Marie Tiervold, and Arveril Andersno prepared lunch for the 17 farmers.
They were August C. Anderson, Clarence Juhl, Henry Valen, Clark Gustafson, Harold Lange, Edwin Madison, Arthur Valen, Bill Hagerman, Floyd Johnson, James Gray, Bruce Anderson, Holgar Aagard, Bob Gray, Raymond Tirevold, Vernon Topp, Earl Stick and Alfred O.
