Lillian Winget Dies at Home Near Superior
Again a home has been darkened and a loved one called to her Heavenly home. Friday morning Mr. and Mrs. Winget’s daughter, Lillian, passed away.Lillian Eliza [Olivia] Winget was born November 6th, 1900, in Dunlap, Illinois.
She died at her home January 25, 1918. She came with her parents to Dickinson county about five years ago and three years ago her health became so impaired that she had to discontinue her school work and was sent to relatives in southern Illinois, in hopes a change would improve her health, but that dread disease, tuberculosis, had marked her for its prey and Friday morning she sank to rest.
She was a loving daughter and sister and will be deeply missed. She was diligent in school work, faithful in home and church duties and was thought to be improving until about three weeks before her death.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Catholic church in Estherville and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at Estherville.
She leaves to mourn her loss a loving father and mother, four sisters, Rose, Josephine, Elinor and Florence, and one brother, Joseph.
Those from away who attended the funeral were Nick Earnest and sister and two nieces from Illinois.
The family have the sympathy of the community in this the hour of their great bereavement. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, January 30, 1918)
Superior Items - On Friday morning, Jan. 25, 1918, death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Winget and took from them their loving daughter Lillian. For the past three years her health had not allowed her to enter into the activities of life, and she was compelled to quit school. She went to southern Illinois and remained with relatives for some time in hopes of regaining her health, but all efforts were in vain. The past winter she seemed to be improving until about three weeks ago, she gradually grew weaker and God called her home. Lillian was a kind and loving daughter and sister. She enjoyed her school work and was a faithful student. During her poor health she had patiently looked forward to the times she could resume her school work and activities the young heart craves. Lillian Olivia Winget was born March 6, 1900, at Dunlap, Peoria county, Illinois. She moved with her parents here about five years ago. Besides her parents she leaves to mourn her loss four sisters Rose, Josephine, Elnar and Florence and one brother Joseph, one brother having preceded her to the home above. In early childhood she became a member of the Catholic church and was faithful to the end. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Estherville, Saturday morning and interment was in the Catholic cemetery in Estherville. We extend sympathy to the bereaved family in this time of sorrow. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 30, 1918)
