H. Wempe, Former Terril Farmer, Dies
Henry Gerhardt Wempe, 72, former resident of the Terril community died at his home here in Estherville at 1:25 p.m. yesterday. Immediate cause of death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage suffered Tuesday morning, but Mr. Wempe had been in failing health for the past three years.

The son of the late Ben and Theresa Wempe, Henry Wempe was born Oct. 22, 1884, at Breda. He was married to the former Celia Schulte Jan. 18, 1910 at Breda and Mr. and Mrs. Wempe moved to Terril 1916. They retired from farming in 1947, moving to Estherville at that time.

Survivors in addition to his widow are two sons, Bernard of Estherville and Edwin of Long Beach, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Fay (Adeline) Gage of Estherville, Mrs. Oliver (Florence) Truesdell and Mrs. Ellsworth (Lucille) Honboth [Heim] of Welcome, Minn. and Mrs. Milton (Arlene) Prange on Good Thunder, Minn.

Also surviving are two brothers, Ben of Breda and John of Fort Dodge; two sisters, Mrs. Lester O’Tool of Jolley and Sister M. Marita of Dubuque, 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mr. Wempe was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, five sisters and a daughter, Mildred, who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, the Rev. Father James H. Duhigg officiating. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at Sternborg Funeral Home.

Friends may call at Sternborg Funeral Home from Saturday noon until time of services. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 29, 1957)

Breda – Funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville Monday morning for Henry Wempe, 72, who died Thursday afternoon at his home in Estherville. Mr. Wempe formerly lived at Breda.

Relatives from Breda and surrounding area at the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wempe, Mrs. Mary Wempe, Mrs. Clarence Tiefenthaler, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Boeckman, Mrs. Frank Nieland, Mrs. Lawrence Engel, Mrs. Barbara O’Tool, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Boeckman, Mrs. and Mrs. Ben Thobe and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ludwig.

Mr. Wempe, son of the late Bernard and Theresa Wempe, was born at Breda and lived here with his parents until his marriage to Cecelia Schulte at St. Bernard’s Church Jan. 22, 1910.

Mr. and Mrs. Wempe farmed two and one-half miles southeast of Breda until 1916 when they moved to a farm near Milford. They also farmed at Terril before moving to a farm near Estherville.

Surviving with his wife are two sons and four daughters: Bernard Wempe, Estherville; Edwin Wempe, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Fay (Adeline) Gage, Estherville; Mrs. Oliver (Florence) Truesdell and Mrs. Ellsworth (Lucille) Heim, Welcome, Minn.; and Mrs. Milton (Arlene) Prange, Good Thunder, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Ben Wempe, Breda; and John Wempe, Fort Dodge; and two sisters, Sr. m. Marita, Mt. St. Francis, Dubuque; and Mrs. Lester (Dina) O’Tool, Jolley.

Mr. Wempe was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Joseph Wempe, and five sisters, Mrs. Joe (Mary) Thobe, Mrs. Joe (Elizabeth) Thobe, Mrs. Joe (Anna) Orth, Mrs. Clem (Kate) Bruning and Mrs. John (Frances) Reiff.
