Gerald "Jerry" Eugene Neppl, 76 years old, resident of Jacksonville, Arkansas, died Sunday morning, April 11, 2010 in McAllen, Texas following illness.

Gerald Eugene Neppl was born in 1934 to Mary and Henry Neppl in Estherville, Iowa. Jerry graduated from Estherville High School and married Phyllis Ann Osher in Estherville, Iowa on December 28, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Jerry survived his wife Phyllis and married Bernadette Yvonne Jorgensen in Jacksonville, Arkansas on May 23, 1981 at Little Rock Air Force Base Chapel on Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas.

Gerald Neppl served his country in the United States Air Force and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1974 at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas following a successful service as a dedicated parishioner and member of the Catholic Church, as a Eucharistic Minister. Jerry is an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus serving in many important positions for over 58 years. He was elected Grand Knight of Council 11604 of Jacksonville and at the time of his death the Faithful Navigator of Bishop Edward Fitzgerald Assembly 2642 also of Jacksonville. Through Jerry’s vision and leadership he leaves behind a legacy and a gift to our community in his dream of a Knights of Columbus Hall.

Gerald is survived by his wife Bernadette, daughter, Diane Hammersly and her husband, Wayne; son Anthony Neppl and his wife, Barbara; daughter Roberta Hodge; son Joseph Neppl; daughter Cynthia Canarina and her husband, Chris; daughter Katherine Nadeau and her husband, Chris; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; siblings, Earl "Bud" Neppl and his wife, Dorothy; Lorraine Kirchner; Bernice Bendixen; Ethel Pohlen and her husband, Jerome and Rita Mae Fox and her husband, Roy.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Neppl, daughter Mary Neppl, and siblings Isadore Neppl, Florence Christensen, and Melvin Neppl.

Services April 19, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville, IA. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Estherville, IA. (Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel website)
