Richard John Umscheid, the son of Lewis and Florence (Wittrock) Umscheid, was born February 15, 1936, in Milford, Iowa. He passed away, Saturday, August 19, 2006, at his daughter's home in rural Terril, Iowa, at the age of 70 years.

He received his education in the Superior schools.

On May 5, 1956, Richard was united in marriage to Dolores Schacherer in Estherville. The couple made their home in the rural Wallingford, Iowa, area where Richard farmed. Dolores died October 4, 1990. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards at the VFW, fishing and most especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Richard was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Estherville. He also belonged to the Elks Club.

Left to cherish Richard's memory are his children, Cathy Beaver and her husband, Ron of Estherville; Connie Mart and her husband, Dennis of Terril; Chuck Umscheid and his wife, Peggy of Estherville; John Umscheid and his wife, Elisa of Estherville; Tom Umscheid and his wife, Dawn of Armstrong; Kelly Petersen and her husband, Jim of Graettinger; thirteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert Umscheid and his wife, Bess of Milford; James Umscheid and his wife, Beulah of Greenville; Francis Umscheid and his wife, Jeanette of Olney, Montana; Donald Umscheid and his wife, Leslie of Kenosha, Wisconsin; sisters, Margie Gustoff and her husband, Verle of Spencer; Nita Bueltel and her husband, Vernon of Superior; and special friend, Betty Streit of Wallingford.

Preceding Richard in death were his wife; parents; and one sister.
