W. A. Staggs Drops Dead at Door of Home
Dr. William Andrew Staggs, for 25 years a prominent medical specialist in Estherville, dropped dead on arriving at his home Monday [January 14, 1929] noon. He had just entered his house and was taking off his coat when he suddenly succumbed to an attack of heart failure.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 o’clock yesterday morning at the home, the Rev. P. A. Davies in charge. Dr. Staggs was 64 years of age and was an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist.

Pallbearers were Dr. P. Cain, Charles Dayton, William S. Johnston, J. T. Johnston, John Waldron, and L. E. White. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.

Born at DeWitt
Dr. William Staggs was born on a farm near DeWitt, Ia., Jan. 7, 1865. After finishing his earlier education at institutions near his home, he attended he Rush Medical school and Hahneman Medical college at Chicago, being graduated in 1889 with the degree of M.D. In 1899 he was graduated from the Chicago Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat college.

In 1899 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Noney at Tipton, Ia. The children of the home are George of Estherville, Leone, now Mrs. W. E. Reisinger of Farmington, Minn., Frank of Oakland, Calif., Mary, Zetta, William and Hugh, all of Estherville.

Settled at Calamus
The surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. John Philbert, Miss Edith Staggs, Julie Staggs, and G. E. Staggs, all of DeWitt, Dr. D. B. Staggs of Monmouth, Ill., and Cecil Staggs of Sioux Falls, S.D.

After finishing his medical school Dr. Staggs first settled and practiced medicine at Calamus and Waverly, Ia. About 25 years ago he took up his work in Estherville and this has been his home since. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, January 17, 1929)
