Lawrence H. Ricke
Estherville – Lawrence H. Ricke, 57, of Estherville died Sept. 10 at Holy Family Hospital there , where he had been a patient for nearly three weeks. A brakeman on the Rock Island Railroad for many years, he had been in failing health for three years.He was born April 8, 1908, at Breda, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Ricke.
Funeral services were held Sept. 13 in St. Patrick’s Church at Estherville, with the Rev. James Fangman officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews, Marvin Heim, Harold Heim, Donald Heim, Leo Heim, James Ricke and Richard Ricke.
Mr. Ricke received his education in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. He was married Feb. 8, 1932, to Loretta A Heim at Auburn. He had been employed by the railroad since going to Estherville, working there until 1957, when he retired with a disability retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick’s parish, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and the Degree of Honor.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Donna Rae) Bendixen, State Center, and Betty R. Ricke, Ames; three grandchildren, and two brothers, Irwin Ricke, Estherville, and Victor Ricke, Arnolds Park. A brother, Clarence preceded him in death.
Among those attending the rites were relatives and friends from towns in this area including Auburn, Breda, Carroll, Westside, Halbur, Manning. (Carroll Daily Times Herald, Carroll, IA, September 21, 1965)
