Otto Reuland, Retired Superior Farmer, Dies
Otto M. Reuland [M. Otto Reuland], 75, retired Superior farmer, died 7:20 a.m. Friday [August 12, 1949] of cardiac ailment at Holy Family hospital in Estherville. He had been in the hospital for 10 days and had been in ill health for about six months.

The deceased was born Dec. 11, 1873, in Waterloo and received his education there. June 23, 1897 he married Connie Hemmer at White Lake, S.D., and the couple after a short time moved to a farm near Storm Lake. They farmed here until 1919 when they moved to a farm southwest of Estherville. After the death of his wife in 1945 he moved to Superior and since has made his home there with a son, Lawrence.

Mr. Reuland was active in rural community affairs while living near Storm Lake, serving on various boards and committees. He joined the Catholic order of Foresters while there and retained his membership in the Storm Lake lodge after moving to Estherville and Superior.

Reuland also took an active interest in activities in Dickinson county, served as assessor for Richland township in that county and belonged to the Estherville branch of Knights of Columbus lodge.

Survivors include four sons; Lawrence, Matt, Frank and George, all of Superior, two daughter, Mrs. LeRoy Schacherer of Wallingord and Lt. Catherine Reuland of New London, Conn.; three brothers, Matt Reuland of Kimball, S.D., John of White Lake, S.D., and William of Presho, S.D., and one sister, Mrs. Lena Dunn of White Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Bert, who died in 1941.

A rosary service was recited at 9 p.m. Monday in the Reuland home in Superior and requiem high mass offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday by Father J.J. Keane at St. Patrick’s church. Burial was in Estherville Catholic cemetery. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, August 18, 1949)
