Area Man Killed in Accident
Princeton, Ill. – An Estherville man was killed instantly Thursday afternoon while working on railroad tracks near Princeton, Ill.William Reiter, 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reiter, Estherville, was working on the tracks and authorities said there was an air hammer running, he apparently didn’t hear a train coming and was run over.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 24, 1977)

Estherville – Funeral services for William Patrick Reiter, 29, Estherville, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 27, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville, with Father Albert Grendler officiating. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville. Burial with military rites will be St. Patrick’s Catholic Church cemetery.Mr. Reiter died Thursday afternoon while working near Princeton, Ill.
He was born Oct., 16, 1947, at Laurens, the son of Robert and Eileen (Nieman) Reiter. He was educated in Estherville schools, graduated from Estherville High School in 1965 and attended Estherville Junior College for one year.
Mr. Reiter served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. For 11 years he was employed by the John Morrell Co. Since January, 1977, he had worked for the Rock Island Railroad in the signal department.
A member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Estherville Veteran of Foreign Wars post, Mr. Reiter is survived by one son, Troy, and one daughter, Tonya, both of Estherville. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reiter, six brothers, Charles Reiter, Waterloo, Joe Reiter, Washington, Ill., Dennis Reiter, Toledo, Ohio, James Reiter, Michael Reiter and Robert Reiter, Jr., all of Estherville, and three sisters, Mrs. Jeffery (Mary) Duhn, Mrs. Richard (Kathleen) Duhn, and Lisa Reiter, all of Estherville.
