N. J. Origer, 86, Dies Suddenly at Rutland
Had Resided in Emmet County 39 Years; Funeral Friday
Nicholas John Origer, 86, an early and highly respected citizen of this community died suddenly Tuesday [November 22, 1932] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Cook at Rutland. While his death because of his age was not untimely yet it was unexpected. He had been in his usual health until a day before his passing.Mr. Origer was born in 1846 at Ospern, Luxemberg, Germany. He came to Iowa directly from Germany in 1864 and to this community 39 years ago. He was a thrifty and progressive farmer near this place until retiring ten years ago. Mr. Origer was married on Jan. 9, 1878 to Kate Kaeder at Caledonia, Minn. Nine children and the widow survive. The children are A. J. and Herman of Estherville, Mrs. Frank Cook of Rutland, Thos. E. of Duluth, Mrs. L. E. Juhl of Crookston, Minn., Joseph, Estherville, Charles of Boulder, Colo., Mrs. J. E. Dulmaine of Denver, Colo., Miss Louise Origer of Lincoln, Neb.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at St. Patrick’s Catholic church with Rev. Father Savage officiating. Interment was made in Calvary [St. Patrick’s] cemetery. Five sons and a son-in-law, Mr. Cook, were pall bearers and all of his children were here for the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Juhl who was ill.
More distant relatives from out of town to attend the services were Peter Origer of Whittemore, John Origer of Bode, Mrs. Anna Kaeder, Mr. and Mrs. L. Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kennedy, Mrs. Dan Morarity of Caldonia, Minn., Dan Coughlin of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Kirsh, Mrs. Zeller, Mrs. John Faber of Bode, Mrs. John Vonbank of Armstrong. N. J. Origer, Longtime Resident Died Tuesday Morning
N. J. Origer, one of Emmet county’s fine old pioneer settlers, passed way suddenly last Tuesday morning at the home of one of his daughters, Mrs. Frank Cook, at Rutland.Mr. Origer, who was 86 years of age, was visiting at the home of his daughter. He was taken suddenly ill with a heart attack on Tuesday morning as he was arising and death came soon after the attack.
The remains were brought to this city for burial and the funeral services were held from St. Patrick’s Church on Friday morning, the Rev. Savage officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery south of this city.
Mr. Origer has been a resident of this county almost forty years. He was born at Ospern, Luxenberg, in 1846. He came to America in 1864. He was a thrifty, hardworking famer and a man who, while quiet, made a host of friends. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 30, 1932)
