Burgess Rites To Be Friday At Armstrong
Funeral services for Darwin Dean Burgess, 20, of Armstrong will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Methodist Church in Armstrong.
Burgess was killed in a car accident near Jacksonville, Fla., Saturday afternoon. He was stationed at Green Cove Springs Naval Base near there.
The Rev. R.D. Tappmeyer will officiate and burial will be at Armstrong Grove cemetery. Military rites for Burgess will be conducted by the Welby-johnson VFW Post 5232 of Armstrong.
The body is scheduled to arrive here Thursday night and will lie in state at the Slaba Funeral Home at Armstrong from Friday morning until the time of service.

Killed in Car AccidentDean Burgess, 20, of Armstrong died following a car accident near Jacksonville, Fla., Saturday afternoon. Burgess was stationed at Green Cove Springs Naval Base, Fla.
The Armstrong youth the three other sailors were riding in a convertible which overturned, pinning Burgess beneath the car. He died a few hours later in a naval hospital. The others escaped uninjured.
Time of services have not been set as the body won't arrive at Armstrong before Friday.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Burgess of Armstrong, two brothers and four sisters.
The brothers are Fae of the San Diego Naval Base and Dennis of the Newport, R.I., Naval Base. The sisters are Mrs. Corlile (Lois)Mitchell of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Pete (Wilma) Ritter of Norfolk, Va., Mrs. Walter (Deloris) Fangman of Bancroft and Mrs. Marvea Howard of Armstrong.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Burgess, born July 11, 1936, at Armstrong, attended Armstrong school and had completed a three year enlistment. He had just reenlisted for another three year term.
