M. Murphy; 75 Passes Away
Resident of Emmet County 40 Years
Martin Murphy, 75, an early settler of Estherville, died at 12:30 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Baldwin. He contracted a cold two weeks ago which developed into pneumonia.

Mr. Murphy came to Estherville 40 years ago with his wife and family from Nebraska. He has been dealing in real estate since his arrival in Estherville. He was born in Johnson county, August 20, 1859. Mrs. Murphy passed away in 1913.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Patrick’s Catholic church with the Rev. L. J. Savage officiating. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery here.

He is survived by three children in Estherville, Mrs. Homer Judd, Mrs. A. E. Baldwin and John Murphy; Martin Murphy of Lockwood, James A. Murphy of Sioux City, Mrs. Harry Ramsey of New York City, Mrs. James Braden of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Elmer Wagne of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. H. G. Peterson of Dayton, O., and Lionel Murphy of Chicago. Martin Murphy Died After Brief Illness
Martin Murphy, a longtime resident of Estherville, passed away last Tuesday noon after a brief illness afflicted with pneumonia. At the time of his death he was at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Baldwin.

Mr. Murphy has been a resident of Estherville about forty years. He was originally at Iowa City where there are many of the family relatives still residing.

Martin has been in the real estate business here. He has handled insurance and was connected with farming. He reared a family in this city and they have been educated in the public schools.

The funeral services will be held at St. Patrick’s church on Thursday morning at nine o’clock, the Rev. Father Savage officiating. The remains will be laid to rest in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 16, 1935)
