ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Mabel Mitchell, 92, of Estherville will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2011, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral chapel. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville.

She died Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

Mabel P. (Sipes) Hassel Mitchell, the daughter of Harry and Hannah (Kelp) Sipes, was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Graettinger. She graduated from Graettinger High School.

On Dec. 31, 1938, she was united in marriage to Vincent Hassel. After their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville. Vincent passed away in May of 1949.

On July 10, 1951, Mabel was united in marriage to Leo Mitchell in Jackson, Minn. She was employed at Wadco. Mabel enjoyed family gatherings, reading, playing cards, shopping and puzzles. Leo passed away Sept. 8, 2002.

Left to cherish Mabel's memory are her children, Maxine Gout, Dottie Heittoff and her husband, Glenn, Kathy Ross and her husband, Rodney, Gary Hassel and his wife, Donna, Steve Hassel and his wife, Linda, Vineta Shyrock, Morris Mitchell and his wife, Sam, Colleen Sheppard, husband, Mike, Ronnie Mitchell and Debbie Benz; daughter-in-law, Jane Hassel; son-in-law, Larry Hutchens; step-son, Jerry Mitchell; step-daughter, Evelyn Knepper; fifty grandchildren; seventy great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Lillie Sandvig and Dorothy Doyle and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sons, John Hassel and Vincent Hassel; two daughters, Marlys Hutchens and Joleen Mitchell; step-son, Marvin Mitchell; sisters, Lois Sandvig and Stella Johnson and brothers, George, Charlie and James.
