Area Resident For 60-Years Dies Today
A resident of Emmet County for more than 60 years, Mrs. Nick (Eugenia) Koenecke, 83, died at 9:25 today at Holy Family Hospital after an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Koenecke was born March 10, 1881 [per cemetery records, 1880] in Lyons, Luxembourg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kriebes. She came to the United States at the age of seven and the family settled in St. James in 1896. She was married to Nick Koenecke at St. Patrick’s Church here on Sept. 25, 1899 and the Koeneckes have farmed and lived in Emmet County since then.

Survivors include her husband, one son, Francis of Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. R. E. (Margaret) Phillips of Burlington, Wis.; three grandchildren, Michael and Mary Koenecke and Robert Phillips, and one brother, August of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, John and Eugene; four sisters and six brothers.

Last rites will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church with the Rev. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home. Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman’s from Friday afternoon until time of services Saturday.
