Mrs. J. P. Kirby Former Resident Dies in Akron
Word was received here by the Donovan family that Mrs. J. P. Kirby passed away on Monday [December 15, 1947] at Akron. She was for many years a resident of this city. Her husband had one of the largest chains of banks in Iowa with the home bank in this city.

Mrs. Kirby was very prominent here and took a great deal of interest in many activities in the city. After the death of her husband she was a resident of Emmetsburg before the family moved here.

She is survived by two sons, Mervin of Portland, Oregon and Donovan of Omaha, and one sister, Margaret Donovan of Emmetsburg. She was a sister of Editor Ann Donovan of Emmetsburg.

The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery here on Wednesday. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 18, 1947)

Mrs. J. P. Kirby Dies At Home Here
Mrs. J. P. Kirby, 82, died at the Hawarden Nursing Home in Hawarden Monday evening following a long illness.

Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at Akron yesterday morning and burial was at Estherville.

Mrs. Kirby came to Hawarden almost five years ago and was cared for since that time at the home.

Survivors are two sons, Mervin Kirby of Council Bluffs and Donovan J. Kirby of Portland, Ore., and one sister, Margaret Donovan of Emmetsburg. Mr. Kirby died a number of years ago. (Hawarden Independent, Hawarden, IA, December 18, 1947)
